Gutter Cleaning Tips

Gutters are an important part of your home. They collect the water runoff from the roof, and keep that water from seeping into the ground near the foundation of your home, which can affect the foundation negatively.

Wear a pair of good work gloves. You'll be putting your hands in potentially dirty gutters, so wearing gloves is one way to keep them clean. You'll also minimize the risk of cutting yourself on a sharp gutter edge by wearing gloves.

Lean your ladder against a solid, stable surface. Be sure the surface you lean the ladder against is also flat. Don't try to prop your ladder against a nearby tree or anything else potentially unstable.

Get a gutter scoop. This scoop, akin to a small shovel, keeps you from having to remove gutter garbage by hand.

Run the hose through the gutter. Before you pack up your supplies and call the job complete, it's a good idea to run a hose through your gutters and test them out. If you notice some flooding, you have some more work to do to get your gutters back in shape.
